He's a lonely French Gaurdsman,
who always pine for the princess.
Every night, he goes to the ball
hoping for just one dance with her,
but the princess has a cold heart
and shares no love with no one.
So he's resigned to dance with
someone else who he deemed
as pretty, but so so
and didn't capture his heart
the way the princess captured his.
"Why do you pine for him?"
Said the madame of the ladies in waiting of the court.
"Maybe he has a lover?"
"I don't think he has anyone." said the noblewoman
granted her father isn't rich,
but damned that princess! Damn her!
She knows how he longs for her,
because he spoke of her during the party,
when she asked if he has anyone in his heart.
A fairy tale childplays that the man is living in,
when he'll learn to grow up?
Oh he is so handsome and smart too.
Even she's smart enough to know
that all woman have a gift for being intuitive
and she knows damn well the princess
cared for no one!
If only he comes around.
The guard would even stand in the rain
and the rain kept on pouring
hoping to catch the princess single glance
but she wouldn't come out
his heavy heart would sigh in dissapoint
and he would go home to have his evening dinner
and the day would repeat itself
One day she walk out and ask how is he feeling?
He only put up a smile for her
because he knows her from the previous nights
of dancing in the ballroom,
so he tipped off his hat,
and then handed her the garden's roses
with thorns and all.
He used a knife to whittle away
the thorns for delicate hands to handle
and gave the rose to her as a gift.
She was pleased, but she wanted more,
but he politely said, "Now if you excuse me
madam, I shall have to tend back to my duty!"
Damn your duty! You did nothing but stand there
all day! Talk to me the way you wanted to talk
to the princess!
But the noble woman said nothing of the sort,
other than to thank him for the dance for the
previous nights and thanked him for a lovely time.
She walked away feeling sad, and he felt sad too
with the yearning to desire to marry with their hearts.
